Valentine's Day mischief

Maggie spent a large part of today practicing pulling up on various things around the house. I managed to catch her on camera in the act...this series of steps was repeated several times today.
Step 1: pull the paper towels off of the bottom shelf
Step 2: use the paper towels to pull up and grab hold of the next shelf up
Step 3: quickly grab the box of cookies before sliding back down
Step 4: smile real big for the camera!

Maggie's 1st Birthday

Maggie turned 1 year old last Thursday, and her grandmamma and granddaddy were in town to help celebrate. Here are a few photos from her birthday, as well as a couple of photos from the previous week. As you can tell, she didn't really like the carrot cupcakes that I made for her, but she did get a few bites of daddy's brownie during the Superbowl , which she loved. So much for trying to be "healthy"...I guess it's chocolate cake for her birthday from now on!

Snow!!

Brrr, it sure is cold out here!
Hey, wait a minute...is that a swing I see over there?
I can't resist my swing, even if it is 20 degrees out.
Okay, enough of this, let's go home!

just a swingin'

Maggie's cousin Gage was kind enough to give her his old swing when we were in Georgia at Thanksgiving, and we finally had a chance to hang it this past weekend. Here are a few shots of Maggie having a blast.

Movin' up in this world

We're now in full baby-proofing mode.  This week Maggie has decided she's had enough of moving slowly, and she's now all over the place.  She's not walking yet, but she sure can quickly inch her way across the floor like a little bug.  For some reason, I thought the baby-proofing would be a gradual process, but on Thursday she showed me just how much she can get into in a few short minutes.

Here are a few photos of her first attempt at getting up the one step in our house...she had her sights set on the dogs' water bowl, and it only took her about 15 seconds to wiggle her way up the step and into the kitchen.  Needless to say, I spent the next 30 minutes or so moving some stuff to safer ground and following her around, learning about what she thought was interesting and then cleaning up the aftermath.

Nothing fights off cabin fever like a spin around the house on the ol' giraffe.

Feeling better

Maggie and I are both starting to feel better.  She's still a very spotted baby, but she is handling the chickenpox like a champ (except for one rough day when she had a high fever).  And the pain from my shingles is starting to decrease, so my smile is coming back as well.  Here are a few pictures just for fun...Maggie soaking in an oatmeal bath, daddy trying to distract Maggie with crayons, and Maggie deciding it might be time to learn how to use a spoon to feed herself (she actually did successfully get a few bites from her bowl to her mouth).
