playing catch up

Lilly is almost 5 months old, and Maggie is already teaching her the ways of the world. Here she is teaching Lilly about numbers and colors. As you can see in the bottom picture, she is already taking on the role of protective big sister.

And here are a few mandatory cute baby photos...

Maggie, Snoopy, and Pooh Bear enjoying the view on a rainy day.

Sorry these next few photos are blurry, but I couldn't resist posting them. When Lilly is in her Bumbo seat, Maggie will pile up every baby toy on her tray for her, one by one...

...and then Maggie thinks it's hilarious when the pile falls over!

Today we brought out a box of play-doh that a neighbor had given us, and Will set Maggie up at her little "desk" outside (the pool was our attempt to keep the play-doh from getting rolled in the pine straw). This play-doh kept her occupied for nearly 2 hours!

playtime pictures

Lilly is starting to grasp and manipulate things with her hands, which means that she can now chew on toys instead of just her fists.

Here she is enjoying some quilt time with her friend Jacob (who is Eli's little brother, and 2 months younger than Lilly).

Maggie and Eli at the playground.

Since mastering the small ladder at one of the neighborhood playgrounds, Maggie wants to test her climbing skills at each playground we go to. She really is amazingly confident and very cautious at the same time, and her persistence is pretty neat...she won't quit until she can climb all the way up by herself (grandmothers...don't worry...I still stand under her and "spot" her!).

"I'm a good slider"

Here is some video of Maggie on the playground. We are all particularly impressed with her new skills climbing the ladder. She spent 20 minutes one day just trying and trying to figure it out and finally mastered it. Her retelling of the story gets a little mixed up with one of our potty books - if you listen closely you'll hear it.

pics from the past week

I apologize for not posting in a couple of weeks...both of the girls have been recovering from a series of colds and I have been getting over a sinus infection, so I have fallen a bit behind on e-mails/blog posts. But here are some miscellaneous pictures from the past week.

Maggie's 2nd birthday!

Last week we all piled in the car (beagles too!) and made the trek to Rome, GA to visit Will's family for Maggie's 2nd birthday. It was great to see everyone, and Maggie got to play with several of her cousins during the trip, including her cousin Morgan during a brief stop in Asheville on the way home. She also got lots of fun goodies for her birthday, including some great baby dolls and a really pretty dress-up trunk that Will's grandfather made for Katie when she was a little girl. And aunt Katie filled it up with some of Maggie's favorite things...necklaces! Maggie also requested and enjoyed a birthday dinner of hot dogs w/ ketchup, mac & cheese, and cupcakes.

more proof of what a good big sister Maggie is...she fell asleep holding Lilly's hand in the car

And when we got back home, Maggie opened her birthday present from Grandmama and Granddad...a baby doll stroller perfect for her new baby dolls!

potty 101

We've been reading some "big girl potty" books lately to get Maggie interested in starting to use her potty. Here she is teaching Pooh the steps she has learned (she narrated this whole event, which was pretty funny to watch). Now we just have to get HER to use the potty! :-)
Step 1: "sit on the potty, Pooh!"
Step 2: "use the potty" (she actually wiped Pooh's bottom, too)
Step 3: "put it into mommy's potty"
Step 4: "wash your hands, Pooh"
Step 5: "let's eat a snack Pooh!"
