Road trip!!

We recently went on a week-long road trip to northeast Alabama & northwest Georgia to visit friends & family.  It was a great trip and we had so much fun catching up with everyone.  Here are a TON of pictures...
Our first stop on our way out of Raleigh was in Charlotte, for some fried chicken at Prices Chicken Coop and a brief visit to Latta Park to let the girls play on the sprayground.

Then it was onto Edneyville, NC to visit our friends Stephen, Victoria, and little Samantha.  Maggie and Lilly really enjoyed meeting their neighbor's goats.
Samantha and Lilly reading some old cards
their neighbors built this really cool grass maze in their yard that the kids loved...the boy in the red shirt is another one of their neighbors
"I'm king of the world!!"

After leaving Edneyville, we headed down to Mentone, Alabama to visit with a group of friends from Ichauway (research station in south Georgia where we used to work)...a big thanks to Ivy and her family for hosting us!!  It was so much fun seeing everyone again and meeting everyone's kids!
Ivy's little boy, Archer, and Maggie get along so well...here they are enjoying a relaxing game of chess on the porch
making homemade silly putty
Lilly, Maggie, and Archer baby rock climbing
we stayed in Ivy's family's lake house...view from the dock
Maggie's first kayaking lesson
paddling all by herself!

all of the kids (l-r): Lilly, Maggie, Henry, Emily, Maria, Drake, and Archer
the whole gang (l-r): Paul, Maria, Kathy, Lilly, Will, me, Maggie & Emily, Brandon, Henry, Jessica, Archer, Ivy, Drake...so cool to be able to all get together again!!
after leaving Mentone, we drove down to Rome, GA to visit Will's family...the girls LOVE aunt Katie!

to top off a great trip, we made a trip into Atlanta to meet my parents at the Georgia Aquarium...it was so cool and the girls really loved it!

popping up in the penguin exhibit
These are called "striped garden eels" and they are so cool!!  They are like little worms that live in the sand and poke their heads up and sway around.  This was one of Maggie's favorite things at the aquarium.
watching the eels
more fish!!
another one of Maggie's favorites...glowing jellyfish!
they had a special frog exhibit on display
does anyone else think this frog looks like Jabba the Hut?

beautiful starfish and sea stars in the touch tank
my favorite thing about this picture is the look that the fish in the background is giving Maggie...click on the picture to enlarge it

catch-up

Here are a few pictures from the past couple of weeks...

peek-a-boo!
the girls LOVE to splash in puddles
more puddle splashing at the school behind the house
a couple of weeks ago, my folks and I took the girls for a walk in the woods...Lilly wanted to hold Maggie's hand on the trail...
and then she had to have hugs!

last week, Leslie & I took the kids up to the Durham Museum of Life & Science...here are Maggie and Lilly in the barnyard looking at the pigs
entrance to the butterfly house

Eli and Maggie wiggling while I try and get a decent picture

they have an awesome dinosaur trail in the woods

Lilly loves outings like this, but she can sometimes be a handful...this was how she was most of the trip (scampering quickly in front of us, usually oblivious to the fact that we were even behind her).

they also had this cool play area w/ all kinds of windchimes, bells, and drums hung up along a big frame for the kids to bang on
