backyard camping, double rainbows, and painting

We've been wanting to take the girls camping before it gets too hot, but we wanted to do a "trial run" first to see how they would both do sleeping in the tent with us before we committed to being out in the middle of nowhere (i.e. with no back-up plan / escape route). We never co-slept with the girls when they were babies, and while Maggie sleeps with us on trips, Lilly has never slept anywhere at night but in her crib (or pack & play on trips). So last week we set up the tent, built a little campfire, and tested things out in the backyard.

Lilly was too excited to even think about going to sleep.

Maggie got to see a double rainbow while heading to preschool earlier this week.

  1. I was thinking about backyard camping this week!! We would definately have to wait until Drake was a little older. I think that Archer would love it though. So... how did it go?

  2. Ha! I guess I forgot to mention that! We gave up and came inside about 10:00 b/c Lilly just would not calm down and go to sleep. She was jumping, giggling, rolling around on top of us, and squealing in our ears! Maggie was curled up and ready to go to sleep, but Lilly kept jumping on top of her. If it had been on a weekend, we would have stayed out there just to see how long it would have taken for her to settle down, but it was a school night and Maggie had to get up for preschool the next day, so we decided to come in and let her get a good night's sleep. The funny thing is that as soon as I put Lilly in her crib, she rolled onto her belly and was out like a light...no fussing or crying. Just a dead sleep!

  3. So funny..... maybe if you did a couple more trial runs the novelty of it would wear off. Or... you could get another tent.
